I was intrigued by the sound of Skeleton Creek and with Borders having its
30% off for teachers deal, went in, bought it, Gordon Korman's Schooled, AND
Neil Gaiman's Newberry winner, The Graveyard Book. I read through it very
quickly it last night and thought it might work as well as a read aloud,
particularly this time of year, and also because it has very cool, very
creepy, line drawings throughout. I'm teaching all the kids in the school
this year, 5 through 8, one period of creative writing every six days, so I
need an EXTRA intense story. (Don't ask; nightmare hole in the schedule that
had to be filled. Shudder, shudder)

These recommendations are terrific--can't wait to crack the seal on Skeleton
Creek!
