Some of us live on powerboats and lack a forestay. (I happen to have one along with a masthead at 23' above the waterline.) Even when I owned a 37' cutter, I placed a light low using the forestay. I'll be leaving an interior light on at anchor and maybe the cockpit light as well - in a trafficked area.
