Depending on whether you're going to allow users to do things to items in
their basket (i.e. customise them in some way, whether by picking sizes
or colours (if each variation isn't an entirely different item) or by
adding gift-wrap, or whatever), it's important to realise that the item
you add to your basket may not be the item you remove from your basket!

The act of adding an item to the basket could transform it from a
'sellable item' to a 'basket item', which would have different
attributes...
