There was an interesting article in the UK PCPlus magazine issue 182 on reducing PC noise pollution. Unfortunately, it hasn't appeared on their web site yet http://www.pcplus.co.uk/archive.asp. They recommend the QuietPC.com website http://www.quietpc.com, and fans from Zalman http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/cnpsma.htm. On the other hand, you don't need anything like a 800Mhz PIII to run as an LTSP workstation. Get yourself a second hand P133 - the one I am using is whisper quiet; you'll save yourself a load of cash; and you'll feel good about recycling a perfectly usable PC which some Microserf has written off as 'too slow'...
