You should be OK just putting in a regular entry (same as you would for your
LTSP clients) it would even serve windows machines (mine is actually our
Company DHCP Server along with DNS Samba and LTSP). Weather or not the
option root path would mess up the stand alone linux box is another thing.
That might explain why I have such a headache when I setup Linux boxes in
the office.

You can do a lot with dhcp

Man dhcpd.conf

Will describe how to setup a pool, that's what you would want to do.
