I have experienced this behaviour and these were the causes:

1. The mouse was unplugged and plugged back in while the ws was powered
up.

2. Incorrect x_mouse_protocol in lts.conf

There could be other causes.

What kind of mice are you using and what does your lts.conf file
specify.
