I enabled debugging on GDM and got the following results in the syslog when trying to lock the session using the original and modified LDM scripts:
Results when logged in using the old LDM script: Jun 27 22:53:52 anthony-laptop gdm[4741]: gdm_socket_handler: Accepting new connection fd 8 Jun 27 22:53:52 anthony-laptop gdm[4741]: Handling user message: 'VERSION' Jun 27 22:53:52 anthony-laptop gdm[4741]: Handling user message: 'AUTH_LOCAL 8bab402dc278302e7985cafb4299ff1f' Jun 27 22:53:52 anthony-laptop gdm[4741]: close_if_needed: Got G_IO_HUP on 8 Jun 27 22:53:52 anthony-laptop gdm[4741]: close_if_needed: Got error on 8 Results when logged in using the new LDM script: Jun 28 09:43:07 acal2 gdm[4741]: gdm_socket_handler: Accepting new connection fd 8 Jun 28 09:43:07 acal2 gdm[4741]: Handling user message: 'VERSION' Jun 28 09:43:07 acal2 gdm[4741]: close_if_needed: Got G_IO_HUP on 8 Jun 28 09:43:07 acal2 gdm[4741]: close_if_needed: Got error on 8 The only difference is the omission of AUTH_LOCAL parameter which is why I believe I get the authentication error in my .xsession-errors log file. Does this have to do with a malformed .Xauthority file? Why would my session now not be able to authenticate with GDM? ----- Original Message ---- From: Anthony M Simonelli <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: ltsp-discuss@lists.sourceforge.net Sent: Monday, June 25, 2007 9:44:39 PM Subject: Re: [Ltsp-discuss] LTSP 5/code to bypass encryption of X That makes sense, and is probably related to the last problem I'm experiencing. Before I was able to lock the session by clicking the log out button and selecting 'Lock Screen'. Now I get a message pop up window saying: "Error while running command ** Message: Screensaver is not running!" When I look at my .xsession-errors file, I find the following message: "** (gnome-session:14557): WARNING **: Failed to authenticate with GDM" The log out option works fine, but I get that .xsession-error entry every time I click on the log out button (that's the event that triggers it) and I get the pop up window above every time I click Lock Screen (which tries to start gnome-screensaver but can't because it fails to authenticate with GDM). Is it related to not proxying X through ssh? Is there a workaround I can try?
