I just ran x11perf on a terminal first running LTSP4.2 and then running 
LTSP5.0. 
Comparing the two outputs show that the X-Server on LTSP5.0 is marginally 
slower in most 
operations, though I don't think it is enough of a difference to notice.  I 
don't think 
we'll gain much by replacing the X-Server.  I can post the results if anyone is 
interested.

The terminal is an LTSP-150, which has a Trident video card, 128Mb of memory, 
and a 533Mhz 
VIA Samuel 2 processor.

The server is a dual core, dual 3.0Ghz processor system with 2Gb ram running 
Fedora 5.

The only user process running on the server for both runs was x11perfcomp, and 
nothing was 
run on the terminal other than x11perfcomp.  The window manager was Fvwm2.

I started with a full reboot of the terminal in both instances.
