Sorry, no experience on that. We use gnome fallback on all clients.

Correct. Yes. The set up is trivial and done centrally installing it in the
chroot. For using on fat clients you need to run this from the chroot after
installing epoptes-client to generate a certificate:
epoptes-client -c
But I'm also saying you don't need to go the whole hog and move to fat clients
in order to let some load off the server. Have you tried running some apps as
local apps on your thin clients? Eg Firefox, scratch...

I do something similar for a staffroom calendar onto a 42" screen. In lts.conf,
I've configured a specific machine by mac address to auto login as a
'staffroom' user. Then on that 'staffroom' user's desktop, I've configured
Firefox to auto start and open a specific page for that user at login.
