Your right Richard really depends on who is looking at the site. *most* being the operative word you used, I'd like to say that you have fallen bait to the stereotyping lot; I have participated in the poll.
There is a lot of stereotyping (both self and gender role) hampering the ladies from joining the IT industry, there is a lot of laziness as well and no it doesn't have to do with "getting rich men", else how would you explain their existence in the other various sectors. I attribute the laziness to the "kick to run" attitude ladies have; they won't keep up the pace with the fast and ever changing and challenging IT industry, so they resort to what they *think* are less challenging careers. The fact that a number of ladies (in this part of the world) are exposed a little late to IT and all that comes along with it, may explain why they generally have no interest in IT, this is why the totally have no interest in the field, they don't understand it, thus other than take time to study and understand this strange IT industry they distance themselves. I think failure to balance crazy work hours and family life is a potentially damaging mindset that has unfortunately been taken up by a number of young ladies around. There are women who will argue that that site is empowering. That's besides the point however, I do honestly think that that should not be a reason to deter you or any woman from talking part in this poll/discussion. That in itself highlights the fact that *MOST* women expect to be handled with special care if they are to do anything (including excelling in IT and going to the bar for lawyers) and will find the first flimsy reason to chicken out. What I would expect from you Joan and all you women out there is valid sensible reasons and arguments as to why there are few of you in IT but all we are getting is grief about a sexist site. I expect I will be flamed for this but ... bring it on. jajilong wrote: >Badru, > >The site is simply sexist, and for pple looking to find reasons why fewer >women are involved in IT, you're doing a good job with the Stereotyping. > >Joan > > > -- Richard _______________________________________________ LUG mailing list [email protected] http://kym.net/mailman/listinfo/lug %LUG is generously hosted by INFOCOM http://www.infocom.co.ug/ The above comments and data are owned by whoever posted them (including attachments if any).
