Right, but I was looking for a GUI, and I quite like KMail's
indexing mechanism.

I went through all of them after migrating to Mac:

a) X11 + KDE were not stable. The 'kdepim3' package (which
houses KMail and all that) kept crashing. It was not
   stable at all.

b) KDE-MAC looked (and looks) very promising, but it also
had several bugs that were still a work-in-progress.
Granted, you were warned that it "really wasn't ready".
It was basically unstable too, but I'd keep my eye on it:

The thing I liked with KDE-MAC was that you don't need to
have a running X11 server. KDE-MAC runs like any other
   package within Mac OS X.

That killed it for me immediately.

I need Maildir support because I'm dealing with dozens of
Maildir folders that come to a little over 100,000 in
messages (my e-mails date back quite a bit...).

Looked at this one also, but wasn't quite what I needed.

The thing is I was coming from a Linux environment, where I
did all my e-mailing on KMail. Having spent nearly 5 weeks
on setting up a reliable e-mail solution on my MacBook, I
can honestly say there aren't many free mailers that offer
the depth of features you get with KMail, out-of-the-box.

Cheers,

Mark.
