It will drop the pitch of the resonance.

You can use this technique to home in on the frequency of a note that you are 
playing.
i.e. Play the lowest note on the instrument and carefully shade the soundhole
until you hear the fundamental of that note get a bit louder.
(assuming, of course, that it's lower than the resonant frequency of the body 
to start with,
 I'm only guessing that because it's the case with a lot of instruments I've 
tried...
