which is when I got into problems since my Qt was compiled with gcc 2.96...

PS. I can use these versions of gcc:

$ module avail gcc
------------------------ /usr/local/lib/module/modules ------------------
gcc/2.95.2 gcc/2.96 gcc/3.0.4  gcc/3.2.3  gcc/3.3.1  gcc/3.3.2
