More likely a plain lack of knowledge on the part of the teacher. Not
to knock Windows users too much, but generally they're a little
narrow-minded - they don't really understand that there are
alternatives and they don't look for better ways of doing things.

Like others have said, we really need more on his complaints to
really shoot them down, but here are a few thoughts.

1) Compatibility: There are no compatibility issues. JPEGs, GIFs,
HTML files, in fact the majority of file formats, are cross platform.
For the few that aren't, like a TIFF image say, Mac programs offer
the choice of saving in Windows format . MS Word .doc; same thing.
Appleworks reads and writes them, no problem.

In fact, any compatibility problems you can find are on the Windoze
side. Example: Macs, since at least System 6, read and write PC
disks. The same isn't true on the dark side.

2) Software: There is no lack of software for the Mac, unless you
plan to use it to play games. All major software titles have always
been available for both platforms (and most of them were originally
written for Macs, like Photoshop or MS Word.) If the same title isn't
available, as ACDSee used to be, then there are excellent (read
superior) alternatives, like iView.

The major design apps are now available for OSeX as well - Freeway,
GoLive, Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash are all out and DreamWeaver is
in beta testing.

3) Stability - Personal experience on Windows 98 & 95: Yes , they do
crash as often as everyone says - even MS's ads for 2000 had a line
stating "crashes 13% less". Anectodal from MSCE techs I'm friends
with; Windows ME is even more unstable and XP has severe
compatibility problems with external devices. (Their choice, BTW, in
case your sis does go to the dark side, is 2000 or NT)

OTOH, I don't crash more than once a week, if that, in OS 9, and OSeX
is incredibly stable. It's near impossible to crash the system.

4) The Future - Contrary to popular opinion, Apple is not on it's
last legs, nor is it a tiny company. I don't have current figures,
but at one point last year, the number one computer manufacturer was
Dell (Quel suprise!) with a 10% share; Number two was Apple, with 8%.

5) Return on investment:
