Do I take it that purchasing a DSL modem in Canda, is still too new a phenomenon for reviews?
Naaahh... Just that depending on the region you're in, you might not have the luxury of having a smaller provider that lets you buy the modems! ;-)
...and/or lets us use our own.
That's undoubtedly the problem, but I think that with modems now available at retail (not widely yet and just starting to become available), that's sure to change. People will start buying modems (whether that's smart or not) and then go looking for a provider. That's how I'm thinking - which modem to buy. What do (smaller) providers do then but try to accommodate us.
I have purchased a Speedstream DSL for my dedicated connection (my DSL provider in Montreal is B2B2C); I have sold and installed D-Link DSL modems at clients; I've also seen the G-Net DSL modems in a couple of locations, but it's not really well rated with local providers (some having experienced connection reliability issues).
I'm using a Speedstream with Sympatico and have had no serious problems with it (except that it's a $10/mo sinkhole ;).
The D-Link DSL 300 is a decent unit. It will set you back about $150. Whatever you end up considering brand/model wise, please check with your DSL provider for compatibility: you don't want to end up buying something that won't work with your provider's equipment.
Does that STILL happen?
Thanks for the info.
