Ah, I think I might have just been able to re-create your issue.
When I first went to the page
and clicked on the link, it worked perfectly fine. So then I went
into Safari's preferences
and unchecked "Display Images When The Page Opens" under the
Appearance tab,
restarted Safari, and tried the link again. This time: a 1x1
speck... no image.
Check to see if this function is checked or unchecked in your Safari
preferences.

I'm experiencing the same 1x1 pixel problem on the following url:

when I link on the bottom right 'OTTAWA CITIZEN AD PART 1. January

I've tried with/without blocking popups. Anyone got a solution?

When I first upgraded to OS X I wasn't able to download from
sourceforge.net -- anything I linked on that went to
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/xxx ended up as a 1x1 pixel.
