You might also want to enable the "9" icon in the top line bar. This way classic can be started and stopped right from the top line.

There was this tax program I was using that was a classic app. So classic would start up when I started the tax program. Unfortunately classic would still be running when I quit the tax program. Naturally it was quite a while before I realized why the PowerBook fan was coming on more often than it should have.
