as I rememberl wasn't there a recall and refund on Panther to G3 owners
when the OS did not perform, I think you may find Tiger beyond the
capabilities of a G3 iBook having used it first hand for some time now
on a G5

Does that mean you officially need a DVD drive to run Tiger? My G3
iBook isn't
yet 2 years old, and only has a CD drive. It's no problem for me, as
I have an
external DVD drive anyway, but it's going to be annoying for a lot of
people!
