MacTracker suggests that 12" iBooks up to and including 700 Mhz G3
mainly had CDs, and also some 800 & 900 Mhz G3s. These were available
up until April 2003, I believe. All G4 iBooks have had DVDs, as (I
believe) have all eBooks.

I am afraid I would have to agree with Apple here. Mac's have been
coming out with DVD drives as standard for a long time now apart from
some low end models. Tiger is a seriously beefy OS that needs decent
hardware to run on. I would reckon the % of people that would need the
cd version of Tiger would be very small.

There's something on the US website where it says that users who
don't have a DVD drive can send their DVD in and get a set of CDs,
for which they've got to pay the media cost.

Does that mean you officially need a DVD drive to run Tiger? My G3
iBook isn't
yet 2 years old, and only has a CD drive. It's no problem for me,
as I have an
external DVD drive anyway, but it's going to be annoying for a lot
of people!
