My basic idea is that I could try swapping out parts to test. I am not sure if anything else might be a suspect because I don't know a lot about hardware - but I can take Macs apart and put them together again ;-) There have been some good suggestions here (thanks) which I will look into. Meanwhile I would be a grateful recipient of the IDE ribbon cable. If I had access to other parts I have the option to switch them. Bottom line is a wanted a better Mac for my daughter who has a 5500/225 that takes so long to display web pages that it makes her ADSL emulate a modem! I will gladly pay postage and a little for the time and packing. mail me direct if it isnt anymore relevant to listees all the best Brian -- Mac UK is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... 123Inkjets.com <http://lowendmac.com/ad/123inkjets.html> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Mac UK list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/mac-uk.shtml> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[email protected]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-uk%40mail.maclaunch.com/> iPod Accessories for Less at 1-800-iPOD.COM Fast Delivery, Low Price, Good Deal www.1800ipod.com
