As Eric wrote, accessing Documents on AFP Volumes works without problems since a while now. What still doesn't work is accessing storages (like services.rdb), which is needed to run OOo from AFP Volumes (see http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=70976).
