Thanks Jim,

I also use a Canon and I use NO other software then iPhoto to download  
the still and video files.   Works perfectly and flawlessly.  This is  
why I ask the question, I believe you are making it harder than it  
needs to be.  No matter what I have taken, video and still all I do is  
plug in the Canon, iPhoto opens (if it isn't already open) and it ask  
me if I want import all, which I do for it is much easier to delete  
the bad ones with the computer than trying to do it in the camera.   
Once everything is imported I am ask if I want to delete the  
originals, I make my choice and it is done.  Unplug the camera and  
then go to iPhoto to easily rotate, delete, get rid of redeye, adjust  
settings, place into Events, etc. etc.

Thanks for your detailed explanation, I hope you can try this new way  
once to see how simple it is.
