The Select 310 is an oddball postscript-but-not-appletalk serial printer
which requires a special driver. Apple stopped supporting that driver
after OS 8.1. It is unlikely that you can get reliable printing from any
OS after 8.1.

If the 310 driver supports Apple's printer sharing, a button appears in
the Chooser letting you set up printer sharing (note the If). Someone
mentioned LocalTalk Bridge, which will not help you because your 310 does
not do LocalTalk.

Downgrading your 8500 to 8.1 is probably not an option. If you have lots
of toner, look for a Select 360, a much better printer whose only real
drawbacks are no built-in ethernet and toner getting harder to find.
Otherwise, a LaserWriter IIg with built-in ethernet is a much more
compatible printer, and they are practically free at this point.
