Feels like two questions to ask and answer here. 1. Did the sender spam Grant? No. Grant signed up for this. Grant recognized the sender, recognized that he did sign up.
2. Did the sender spam others? We can't tell with certainty; we don't know how other recipients feel about this email. Sure, we tell people that it is a best practice to weed lists of older subscribers who haven't been mailed to after X period of time. But on a 1-10 scale of spam problems, I'd call this one about a 1.5. I don't find it worthy of navel gazing.
