Declan and all,

One other very important thing about converting layouts to PDFs. Do not use
PDFWriter. Print to file using a color postscript driver (not the distiller
PPD) and then use Distiller to convert it to PDF. The resulting file will
look better and be smaller. You may have to experiment to findf which driver
works best for your type of maps.
