I wouldn't counterpose abortion rights to majority voting rights - they are 
both essential democratic demands - but I appreciate the pitfalls pointed to by 
David W. and Steven R.  I'm much less familiar than they about the intricacies 
of the US political system, and was more posing a question about the 
feasibility of organizing around the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact 
than providing an answer.

But I will go out on a limb to say that this demand, despite its shortcomings, 
would still  resonate more with US working people than the advice dispensed by 
Charlie to Marxists who are active in the unions and allied movements to " 
agitate for working-class power, socialist revolution, and as a corollary, no 
presidential vote this year."
