Hari-- This is your contribution to the concrete issues of campaigning for Democrats, rushing to Marv's defense? Try performing the evaluation of Marv's advocacy of a "left-liberal" alliance using Marv's own criteria; and then you should do the same using mine.
But let's parse your heroic defense of unfairly criticized sage: I f I subscribed to Tsipras' policies, as you allege, I would have defended them against his critics then and now We've already shown that Marv defended the decision to provide "support"--whether critical or not--of the decision to support the election of Syriza in Greece, so nothing further be said on that matter EXCEPT it refutes the claim that: I've never once said nor hinted that I am in favour of a program "which supports class collaboration and maintains the ruling institutions and relations of the bourgeoisie." If supporting Syriza does not amount to supporting class collaboration and maintaining ruling institutions, then a)there must be 2 Syriza's, one that explicitly vowed to maintain the authority of the EU the ECB, the parliament, the Greek military and then another one which Marv and others found worthy of support in winning the general election . He understood that a revolutionary program required revolutionary conditions and scorned those who thought the Bolshevik program could be mechanically imported where such conditions did not exist He was flexible enough to alter his position when conditions changed, and he understood that the overthrow of capitalism by the masses would require a vanguard party of disciplined revolutionaries. The homage to Lenin sounds very reasonable and rational, except for the fact that no EXAMPLE of Lenin ever proposing a "left liberal alliance," or election of Kadets as a tactic or strategy for the party is provided, even during times of working class retreat. And you know what? if Lenin ever did that, he would have been wrong. I am not one thinks Lenin is the authority and I have never cited Lenin as the source for my criticism of "left-liberal alliance." I am not a "vanguard-ist." where you saw socialism being established after that? Perhaps it was in the gushings of Castro? Perhaps it was in the ever-so vibrant and brave Che? Perhaps indeed it might have been in the disasters of Mao's so-called 'Great Leap" or even better in his "Great" "Proletarian" Counter-revolution? Oh - did I forget, did you see it perhaps in.... (wait for it) Harold Wilson..? Or perhaps even in Kampuchea.... Dear me. We won't even mention Grenada, Nicaragua, Venezuela.. oh, the list goes on - does it not? WTF? I mean, really WTF is that, besides incoherent? The issue is and was--what can establish in both long and short runs effective resistance and opposition to the need of capitalism drive the cost of labor power below its value. I think as a matter of fact almost all the circumstances you describe resulted in collapse of the prospects for the emancipation of labor because in part if not in total, of the type of class collaboration, accommodation to liberalism that Marv falsely characterizes as Lenin's flexibility. Now if you think Trump is an aberration, a one-off, and his great appeal is NOT that he represents the petit-bourgeois willingness to die and kill for the sanctity of private property; to attack the most vulnerable sections of the working class (women, migrants); that his supporters are not organized by that need of capital and the bourgeoisie as a class, to impose the needs of accumulation upon the working class; if you don't think Trump is both the logical and illogical extension of Reagan/Bush/Clinton/Obama; if you think that capitalist "free trade" is more enlightened more humane than capitalist protectionism; if you believe there really is a "good cop" in this "good cop-bad cop" farce written by cynics for the enjoyment of fools--then it's you who haven't been paying attention to the changes since 1925 or 1923 (since 1872 really). And good luck with that. But there won't be any because what is necessary is a good-bye to all that. So good-bye to you Hari. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
