I have been trying unsuccessfully, since many years by writings and throughout countless and endless debates with academic and extra-academic public, to explain the simple fact that, if you are using Marx' analytic instruments to examine the worldwide development stages and manifestations of capitalism up to the present day, you can clearly see that there can be nothing you can call "socialism" without the "subjective" and "objective" preconditions for its emergence having been fulfilled. Stalinism, Maoism, and all varieties of "really existing socialism" anywhere in Eastern Europe and the "Global South" were social orders which had nothing to do with fulfilling these conditions. They were systems for more or less successful "catch-up capital accumulation" with different mixtures of oppression and exploitation of the respective population and satisfaction of their basic needs for food, employment and housing. The West called these systems of authoritarian, retarded "catching-up capitalism" "socialist", to scare the masses in the West of Socialism, as an emancipatory social order which could emerge, if the said subjective prerequisites (meaning political awareness of the masses) and objective preconditions (the technological capacity of prevailing over the "law of scarcity") for overcoming capitalism are fulfilled. Equally, the masters of the "real socialism" systems got the better of any opposition against their regimes by maintaining that their "socialist" order is the historically most advanced social order in the world.
