My comment is more focused on the fact that those who promote the Leninist
model of organization do not understand that this model may have suited the
conditions of illegality, but it does not fit the conditions where political
activity is free. As such, it is unattractive and, therefore, it has not been
successful even among the working class. If it is unattractive, it will not
expand or play a role in organizing workers, as it has not done so far,
especially in the United States.
A party that very selectively recruits the politically most conscious members
of society and which is internally democratic if based on Leninist principles,
soon ceases to be democratic, and thus becomes unattractive.
In conditions of free political activity, the constant increase in membership
and the number of people voting for such a party speaks to how well such a
political party responds to challenges and has a future in influencing social
changes. Parties that receive less than one percent of the votes in elections,
and have been doing so for the past 30 years, show that they do not meet the
needs of the time.
If they are waiting for a revolutionary situation in which they will play a
significant role, they are mistaken. First, they will have to wait quite a long
time, and if such a situation does arise, others will have already taken
positions among the masses, like the fascists today, so no one will take these
professional revolutionaries seriously. The particular revolutionary situations
when such parties had the opportunity to act and organize the masses have long
passed. There is no longer an industrial proletariat. Robots work in factories,
and the majority of workers are employed in the service sector.
