Charles, you are mixing terms unrelated to each other. The term "Trotskyite" is not the antonym of "Stalinist". "Trotskyite" is a derogatory term only used in polemical opposition. The term "Trotskyist" is acceptable here. "Trotskyite" is not. "Stalinist" is far more complex since there are folks who use this as a self-description and it is a political category for those that adhere to the politics of the Stalin wing of the old Soviet bureaucracy. There are many (whom I would describe as "Stalinist") who do resent the term, especially when it is used in a polemical and not as a descriptive term.
We would oppose the use of the term Stalinist to casually reference organizations or individuals who we categorize as such and used only in a polemical manner. It is extremely bad form. My use of the term was correct. Secondly, more importantly you failed to make the case for "anti-communism" of H. Marcuse since his preeminent years were part of the Western European New Left and spoke at socialist venues. That he was an anti-communist before his late 50s/60s radicalization. His opposition to the spreading of influence of the USSR, during this latter period, was hardly anti-communist unless your definition of this term "anti-communist" means against the politics, program, and policies of the USSR.
