This view is fudged smudging. First, it confines the problem to a Bonapartist or fascist dictatorship. In so doing, it hides authoritarianism. After all, the capitalist republic ranges across a spectrum from bourgeois democracy through authoritarianism to fascism. Second, the logic is circular: so long as bourgeois democratic institutions function, then elections (a b.d. institution) can put the Democrats back in power. Third, let us allow that the Democratic party might indeed win election majorities. Or that Trump leaves the scene, and a different sort of Republican replaces him.
