The masses have fought for and defended the right to vote since the franchise was restricted to the propertied classes, and Charles would agree this is a democratic right we should support unconditionally. Rather than "glorifying" the present electoral system, I view it as contradictory. While the masses have used the electoral process as a means of reforming the system and improving their living conditions, the extension of the franchise has also served the historical interests of the bourgeoisie in steering mass discontent into peaceful channels and away from violent unrest and revolutionary politics. Charles also asks how the the Supreme Court Gore decision "fits into bourgeois democracy."
