David and Duane, I don’t know who you are both referring to, but I and those I know on the left don’t favour a victory of one camp over the other.
As you know, we've seen it as a war between rival capitalist states and their proxies with the potential to escalate into a nuclear catastrophe. Rather than the hundreds of billions of dollars in military aid sent to Ukraine and the resulting death, displacemeent, and destruction, we supported a negotiated settlement along the lines of the Minsk and later Istanbul accords. In the same vein, we're currently opposed to the huge increase in military spending by the European NATO countries to support a continued Ukraine war effort until a fanciful final victory, the reconquest of the Donbas and Crimea. Majority opinion in the war-weary Ukrainian population now seems to agree and the state has had increasing difficulty stemming the tide of potential conscripts trying to evade the draft. Also, unlike yourselves, we don’t see any parallel between this inter-capitalist war and the 20th century wars of national liberation against Western imperialism, nor do we believe the European working class, which has borne the brunt of the war, has an interest in its certain outcome - the exploitation of the disputed territories by Russian or Western capital or some international consortium encompassing both. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
