If you haven't already, have a look through the the ppc-cooker archives or sub to ppc-cooker found in the developers list here

The archive appears to be down, I've found no match in my archive to for your the card.

I couldn't get to the archive, and I'm loathed to post in that list as it's really only for bug reports,, but then it looks like it's a bug so it's probably worth it ;o)

On the list you will find the package handlers of various parts of the distro including the kernel and installer - 10.1 ppc is not an offical mdk product so your in with the folks who made the thing. As a subscriber for the past 3 years you will find them to be a good bunch. For the distro to survive people need to input to the cooker list. I hope oldworld macs continue to be supported for some time to come while the installer is basicly a hacked i386 from 8.1.

The install onto a beige oldworld went well once the correct driver was found for the onboard scsi, with two exceptions, the first being the need to copy the kernel and initrd *from* the linux side to the mac side for bootx to use. The old kernel will run but hfs or hfsplus isn't part of the earlier kernel making this hard. Using the install kernel as recommended will mount the mac partition but as read only - I'm doing something wrong !!
The second is the lack of networking which relates to the first in a very mac-like way. One would use explore2fs for the job on a pc, would anyone know of a utility to browse exfs2-3 partitions under the classic macOS in the same way, worse comes to worse I'll install a min 9.1mdk just to transfer.

For what its worth I did a gui install without problems

There is always alt-F2, F3 and F4 to get some info during the install.

These do not work, or give me blank screens, thus I think the installer is locking up solid. If it was just sitting waiting for something I should be able to see what it's doing, but alas no...

They should work up to the stage before you choose your scsi driver? You may find something unexpected there. Try ctrl+alt+F2 before that point to get to a bash # plain alt+F2 may do the same, just following the oldworld instructions.

Sorry I dont have the HW or time to go further, maybe someone can suggest a second driver that will get you through the install? Mdk isn't very big on this list.

As it's probably one of the most complete Linux distro's on the MAc platform that surprises me. A lot.

I've tried a few, I like being able to have the same OS on both mac and pc - well close. Mdk has never been *easy* to install on a ppc but a working system is its own reward once you've got it up and running.

If you have the means try a min 9.1 install and see if the installer has the same problem, if not try to update to 10.1 or use the software updater to update??? There are holes in that idea but its doable.

Good luck Mark, sorry I'm not real helpful.
