But since he's using a 7-8 year old notebook with a 180MHz CPU, it's pretty 
clear he's not looking for a "modern" desktop system.  Linux is often touted as 
a way to resurrect older machines to useful life.  For an 
getting-your-toes-wet-with-Linux system, a 1.3 GB drive and 32-144MB RAM is 
sufficient.  Don't install all the unneeded extras and use a swap of 1xRAM 
rather than 2xRAM and you'll save disk, though in this case I'd use 144MB swap 
regardless of physical RAM.  Use a leaner window manager like IceWM instead of 
GNOME/KDE and you'll save RAM and CPU cycles.  It will be OK.
