Anyone got any advice or personal experience running a *nix OS on 68k
Macs in particular, but also PPC Macs? I'd love to hear about your
successes, failures, thoughts, etc.

I agree that NetBSD is the best choice for 68k Macs, but I gave up on that platform some time ago for performance reasons. 68k machines are too slow for my uses, of course the performance my be OK for your needs. I had to move one of our main servers from a 9600 to a B & W G3 last year because of performance issues. After adding more personnel and services, I will have to upgrade that system to a G4 this year.

I use YDL 3.0 on PPC for several tasks, three out of our seven Linux servers are PPC.

The new YDL 4.0 only installs on NewWorld machines. I am planning a rpm -Fvh upgrade from 3.0 to 4.0 on an OldWorld machine soon. If anyone is interested I could post any problems or tips. Only one of our three PPC Linux machines is NewWorld.

And I use OS X as a "UNIX" on a whole bunch of PPC machines ;)
