I don't think he's prefering a Linux distro over a
BSD, its very much a personal preference AND choosing
the right tool for the job.  I use myself as an
example.

I greatly prefer OpenBSD.  It was the first open
source unix I used, and, consequently, its the OS I
know the most about and feel the most comfortable
with.  In a case where it meets my needs, it is my
first choice.  My firewall? OpenBSD.  My mailserver?
OpenBSD.  

However, I setup a samba server that had Active
Directory authentication as a requirement.  As Open
and Net(?) don't support PAM, that eliminated them. 
That left Linux.
