My brothers machine has the SBLive! and daughter card, and we experienced the same
problem. The solution was actually frighteningly simple (and daft!). The digital
output has a seperate volume control which isn't visible by default in the mixer.
You need to go into "Properties" from the mixer, and make sure the "Digital
Output" control is visible on the mixer, then turn the volume up.
