That was a paraphrase from the vice CEO of Panasonic corp. I was placed in
touch with him when I started asking around for sellers of MD read/write
heads.

Someone also mentioned that they thought a USB drive running at faster than
real-time would cause the MD format to take off.... MD, sadly, is not
realistically going to be write capable at much faster than x2 due to the
nature of the media and it's thermal dissipation rate. The good news is that
x2 raw speed rate is still ~10x audio record due to ATRAC (assuming that the
ATRAC algorithm could be run at 10x). Now if only Sharp would violate their
license agreement with Sony and build one....
