I do it a lot.   It's easier than trying to run things into the 
computer, and I don't have to worry about disk space.  Record radio 
shows, mixes (when I used to DJ).  Put a lot of vinyl onto VHS when I 
was getting rid of the last of the 12" singles.

Just get a VCR that allows you to change input sources, and has 
left/right/video connections on the back (not just coax inputs). This 
used to be an issue, but today even the cheap VCRs tend to be hi-fi, 
stereo  and have these inputs.  (gee, I feel old...)
