Adam, Firstly get a set of extractors and a 2 or 2.25 inch exhaust with hi flow muffler to match. My bluey sounds great after about 3 grand when the extractors start to flow well. Then either the weber like rick suggeted or a set of 1 3/4 inch hitachi or su carbs. They are the bees knees as you get more torque aswell as better revs. Then a nice cam would be good, and maybe get the head shaved for some higher compression. As for the brakes i would suggest getting a TRX rear diff with disk brakes. And today i found that R30 skyline front disks fit straight onto the bluebird struts. They are ventilated and my mate got his slotted and machined for $40 each so now they will work a treat. I am 99% sure that the calipers bolt on, i haven't tested this yet because my mate left them at his home, but a set of 280ZX calipers will fit on aswell.   Hope this helps a bit.
