Good reply, but I still maintain the road is no place for
burnouts/racing. There are a number of reasons for this, and not only
the usual accident related reasons we all know.

One reason out of the usual is that race tracks and drag strips are
purposely designed for the job. The corners are cambered correctly and
the surfaces are smooth and well maintained. The design of the track
and cleanliness of the surface mean you can literally drive to your
limits with a minimun of external stimuli to cause a problem. Not many
roads in our infrastructure can promise that.

Other reasons are the presence of firies and ambulance should you run
out of talent at an awkward moment, and also the proven ability of
yourself and your car. On the road, you are simply putting others at
risk as well as yourself and at the end of the day you have nothing to
show for it. Big deal if you blew away another car on the road, you
have proven nothing. On the track, you have shown a skill to perform as
everyone is on a level playing field.

I regularly download my emails to see people complaining they got a
ticket, they got arrested, they are being harassed etc etc. If you
don't make a dickhead of yourself and put yourself in that situation
then you don't have a problem. If you do genuinely get pulled over by
Traffic Branch for no apparent reason then you can blame every other
dickhead that has done a burnout or hit the loud pedal because he was
having a bad day, as they are the dickheads that draw attention to
modified vehicles.

I am 33 year old in June and I have driven rally cars, mostly Datsuns,
and other fire breathers in events and on the road since I was 17. I
have only copped grief from Traffic Branch and Qld Transport after
clowns have played up in their poorly engineered shitboxes the night
before etc and all loud modified vehicles were tarred with the same
brush.

Prove your metal and race on the track.

brad i can see where your coming from. and i think its where everyone
comes
from(besides all us hoons)
i think theres also a time and a place for everything. being a young
hoon of
only 17 i have seen a lot of incidents with friends in public places
during
broad daylight. ala one of my friends around the corner was drink
driving at
5pm and wrote his car off into a bunch of trees in front of my house on
the
oval.
but i think alot of people also criticise the living shit out of "hoons"
and
at times just plainly bad drivers. my mate was definately in the wrong
and
coped a fine and is losing his license. i think this is very fair
punishment, what i dont think was appropriate was the guy that came up
to
him and punched him one, and went off at him, and the lady which claimed
he
went around the corner at 90+kph. a 90degree corner where he crashed
over 50
mtrs after the corner. yes he took it too fast for his car a heavy arse
xf
wagon. and hes never been sideways b4 so didnt know what to do, ended up

vearing to wrong side of road and into some trees.

what also bothers me is how when i drive down my street and gun in
through
first and second gear at high revs. i stop at about 40mph so only just
over
the speed limit people look at me like im going 200ks or soemthing. but
i
can kane past at 90 in 5th gear and wont even get a glance.

i admit i have done a lot of stupid things in my time and im sure alot
more
will come, but when i do i try to do it as safe as possible, like only
at
sorta a more safer time than others. like 4am compared to 4pm.

again. just my opinion on this topic too.

but no brad i dont blame you. but i guess it wouldnt bother you as much
if
people did it at a place and time where theres minimal to no risk in
others?
but not just on the track?
i wouldnt mind getting your feedback on this.

cheers,
ryan
