These days I think ppl stick all sorts of badges on their 1600's that they come across in their travels and that confuses the issue. You wouldn't know what went where from mine as it originally was a '69 SSS that the body was written off by the PO and Lennocks re-birthed it all into a 10/70 body sometime around '72 as that's when the rego was changed over so it more than likely that the rear panel badge was transferred from the '69. I've seen some '70 models that haven't got one and a few that have, but most of the late models seem to only have a badge on the actual boot lid. My '72 GL that I bought new (RIP) only had a GL badge on one side of the boot lid and a Datsun badge on the other side. My daughter was going through some old photos at the weekend and she found some of my mum's effort on the GL - very sad end but the pics brought back fond memories of a lovely 1600 that I had for 8 years and I wish I still had it today.
