The post 1970's 1600's (in NZ) had the Deluxe badge below the right rear tlight and one on each front fender, the same in OZ? I'm pretty sure only the SSS and the Deluxe models were officialy sold here, the Deluxe was assembled in NZ and the bulk seem to have been built in '72, while the SSS was imported from Japan as were the 68-70 cars AFAIK, the build quality of these cars seems higher as they have better rustproofing and seemed to have survived quite well, though they are still quite rare nowadays.

These days I think ppl stick all sorts of badges on their 1600's that they
come across in their travels and that confuses the issue. You wouldn't know
what went where from mine as it originally was a '69 SSS that the body was
written off by the PO and Lennocks re-birthed it all into a 10/70 body
sometime around '72 as that's when the rego was changed over so it more than
likely that the rear panel badge was transferred from the '69. I've seen
some '70 models that haven't got one and a few that have, but most of the
late models seem to only have a badge on the actual boot lid. My '72 GL that
I bought new (RIP) only had a GL badge on one side of the boot lid and a
Datsun badge on the other side. My daughter was going through some old
photos at the weekend and she found some of my mum's effort on the GL - very
sad end but the pics brought back fond memories o! f a lovely 1600 that I had
for 8 years and I wish I still had it today.

Terry

Terry,
I don't think any of my 510 Dattos had that badge centrally located on the
rear panel.
Did it only come out in particular years I wonder or did people keep losing
them,
or not bothering to replace them after rear end damage.
I have seen them on some cars, that's for sure.
