Andrew, Funny that Rick mentioned the old external reg was hooked up in his car, as for sure that will cause a problem with any internal reg alternator (Bosch or Hitachi). When I read that my first diagnosis with Andrews problem seems to have gone down in flames, I wondered the same thing about the wiring. Rick doesn't say if his is a Bosch or not, but as yours is Andrew, the external reg should not be connected at all - you pull the plug apart and only connect the Indicator Light wire from the Bosch Alternator to White/Red wire on the loom side of the plug. The only other connections on a Bosch alternator are the big White wire to Bat terminal and the Earth.
