Andrew,

Funny that Rick mentioned the old external reg was hooked up in his car, as
for sure that will cause a problem with any internal reg alternator (Bosch
or Hitachi). When I read that my first diagnosis with Andrews problem seems
to have gone down in flames, I wondered the same thing about the wiring.
Rick doesn't say if his is a Bosch or not, but as yours is Andrew, the
external reg should not be connected at all - you pull the plug apart and
only connect the Indicator Light wire from the Bosch Alternator to White/Red
wire on the loom side of the plug. The only other connections on a Bosch
alternator are the big White wire to Bat terminal and the Earth.

If it's wired like this already, then this one has me beat.

regards
Terry

Andrew.
I have the same problem.
When I fitted my internal regulated alternator to me 1600 wagon I couldn't
get the wires to bypass the old external regulator so I left it in.
It sounds like you have done the same.
It hasn't affected the running of the alternator.
Just have to give it a satb before you go any where in the morning.
Later.
