one thing  i cant understand, is who would spend $35k on a engine, if you ask me  its just very poor design.......

i`ve seen guys who spent about 8 to 10 k on a engine  with  the same or less power as my old  l/z hybrid  which cost about half that...

just because its  genuine nissan etc....... doesnt  always mean that its the best.....like  spending  a few thousand on a  head,  .( fia or what ever they are..)   for a few thousand  i would  want 40- 50 kw increase.....

Nissan water front race here in wellington a few years back a guy was racing a escort ex rally/steet car ,He won?,but he was hanging it out big time around every corner.

The real cosworth 2.0L twin cam(ford) engine is very very nice full alloy block and all,,very light.
I belive around $35,000 for a whole engine.
1964 Mk1 Lotus twin cam cortina head is $10K
i sold a 63 lotus cortina diff heada few years ago that pice of alloy only went for 1500.(No gears just the housing)

British RS2000 with the Cosworth BDA engines are tres quick for NA engines. There are a few of them here in the Canberra Scorts club and I can tell you they are a match for a FJ20 turbo if only in a straight line - there aren't too many 80's production 4 cylinders that pull 140 mph. One of the Canberra cars has a $40K driveline in it - big dollars, he told me the spare head was $15K alone which is in FIA Datto league if you could still buy one, you can buy 3 FJ's for that and have the same amount of fun. The thing is with Scorts is you just still buy the good bits off the shelf, last trip to Sydney I did, I picked up some you bute steering rack for a RS 2000 still in a box from England with the customs stamps on it - they're way ahead of us in that area.

Terry

Brad are you talking Uk or aussie RS..??
Reason I ask is they are totally different cars the ozzie made one is just a escort sport with a cortina engine and a Masport gear box(Masport box's were made in NZ)
The real RS has alloy sump, etc, etc plus are worth a shit load.
Plus only ever came in 2 door were in ozzie you got 4 door ones as well.

Just like your escort van  2.0L  only place they made them was ozzie,,,in fact they even made a ????shit carnt think of the name off hand same as the holden sandman but a ford,,was it sunrunner?ford did it in escort and tranist
