I think that your problems with shorting out dash lights will have to do
with the fact that the original stereo lights would have only come on when
you turn your park lights on.
When you fit an aftermarket stereo, they normally run with the lights on all
the time and have no ability to wire the lights into the cars park lights.
Often time people dont realise this and leave the park light wire hanging
around.  People test it with a test light and get nothing so assume its a
dead extra wire, but when they turn on the park lights it touched metal
somewhere and blows the fuse.
If your still blowing park light fuses then i would suggest that this is
where your problem is.  Just figure out which wre it is and tape it up so
that it cant come to any more harm
