Yer i agree with you there Bob, there would be a common -ve for the speakers
and one of the speakers is using park light circuit as a ground.  The stereo
prolly isnt liking it too much, but it'll run like that.

What you want to do is get a D size battery and connect it to what you think
is the left speaker, ground the -ve side of the battery and by tapping it on
the +ve you'll hear the speaker move in and out.  THen do the same for the
other one.  This will mean you know which is which for the speaker wires.

The two wires you have left will be the illumination and the speaker ground.
Hold both of these and turn the park lights on, then test both.  One should
light up and the other will not.  Just to check leave the circuit tester in
the end of the wire and turn the park lights off.

Once you've done this you'll know exactly what every wire is.
