I expect some of the cult following has to do with the fuel economy.  They 
supposedly get close to 20 mpg.  That may not sound like much if you're used 
to regular cars, but for a small motorhome it's outstanding.  A friend of 
mine has almost stopped taking his Mini Winnie anywhere because, at 8 mpg, 
it's too expensive to drive on long trips. 
 
If you really want to see a motorhome with cult status, though, check out 
the old front-wheel-drive, V-8 powered GMC motorhomes.  People will spend a 
mint on restoring those things.  They have an insane following.
