A battery isolator will drop 0.6 volts and the actual drop across long
cables will be determined by length and load.

The correct solution to both of these issues is to find a way to feed your
actual battery voltage to your alternator through a sense wire that runs
from the battery to your alternator.

For the most part, I think that's true.  The exception is when someone
is using a battery isolator, or very long battery cables (like in some
VWs.)  Then the Bosch alternator's lack of an external sense wire
becomes a problem.
